Las Apropiaciones
15, 5: «In Patre unitas, in Filio aequalitas, in Spiritu Sancto unitatis aequalitatisque concordia»; SAN HILARIO, De Trinitate II, 1: «infinitas in aeterno (= Patre), species in imagine (= Filio), usus in munere (= Spiritu Sancto)».

21. THE APPROPRIATIONS
Appropriation consists in a special way of predicating of a single Person an attribute or a common divine operation ("appropriare nihil est aliud, quam commune trahere ad proprium"; De verit. 7, 3).
The purpose of appropriations is to manifest to us intuitively the properties and personal characters of the three hypostases in God ("manifestatio personarum per essentialia attributa"; S.th. I, q. 39, a. 7). To achieve this purpose, common attributes and operations that bear a certain affinity with the properties of a given Person are attributed to that Person alone.
Sacred Scripture attributes the accomplishment of the Incarnation to the Father (Heb 10:5) and to the Holy Spirit (Lk 1:35; Mt 1:20), and distributes the granting of spiritual gifts respectively among the three Persons (1 Cor 12:4ff: "Spirit, Lord, God"), although every operation of God ad extra is common to all three.
We can classify the appropriations found in Sacred Scripture, the Fathers, and theologians into four groups, following the scheme proposed by Scheeben (Dogmatik, Gotteslehre, n. 1046ff):
a. Appropriation of the substantive names (theos, kyrios); cf. 1 Cor 12:5-6; Jn 3:16-17; Gal 4:4,6 (Theos = God the Father, Kyrios = God the Son).
b. Appropriation of the absolute attributes of God (power, wisdom, goodness); cf. St. Augustine, De doctrina christ. 15:5: "In the Father, unity; in the Son, equality; in the Holy Spirit, the harmony of unity and equality"; St. Hilary, De Trinitate II, 1: "infinity in the Eternal One (= the Father), form in the image (= the Son), use in the gift (= the Holy Spirit)."
c. Appropriation of the works of God (efficient cause, exemplary cause, final cause, according to Rom 11:36: decree, execution, consummation).
d. Appropriation of the worship of adoration and sacrifice (the Father accepts it, the Son and the Holy Spirit act as mediators); cf. S.th. I, q. 39, a. 8.
